How to Monitor Your On-Page SEO

February 7, 2020/by Ed Smith

Once you’ve performed on-page SEO, the next step is to monitor the results. This is a very important part; its how you know if your techniques are working to your benefit. The following are some of the things you should do to stay on top of your on-page search engine optimization.

Track your keywords

One defining aspect of on-page SEO is knowing how your keywords are performing. For starters, the Google Search Console offers a free and instant checker for your keyword rankings on the web.

You can also explore other tools for more in-depth analytics, including alerts for ranking drops, rankings per location, progress map, and so on. From there, you’ll see which keywords aren’t driving traffic to your web page and what can be done about it.

We also recommend checking how each individual page is performing. Through that, you can link under-performing pages to your high-authority pages. That way, the SEO benefit will trickle down to the poor pages.

Analyze your organic traffic

Gaining organic traffic is the primary goal when performing SEO. So to see how good your on-page SEO is, you should analyze the traffic you’re getting. That way, you can know if there’s a sudden slump or increase.

Aside from the basic numbers, you should also check the bounce rate of your pages. Take note that even if you have high volumes of traffic, an equally high bounce rate means all that traffic is for nothing.

This will vary from website to website and also the type of page visited. Usually, blog pages have the highest bounce rate, which is quite normal. However, in terms of product pages, you’d want to limit the bounce rate to get better conversion rates.

Experts suggest a benchmark when it comes to bounce rates depending on the type of pages:

  • Blogs and dictionaries – 65% to 90%
  • Landing pages – 60% to 90%
  • Content websites (non-e-commerce) – 35% to 60%
  • Lead generation websites – 30% to 55%
  • Business to business (B2B) websites – 25% to 55%
  • E-commerce and retail websites – 20% to 45%

Check your pages per session

This SEO metric pertains to the average number of pages that a site visitor visits per session. Take note that each session is slated at 30 minutes. This is a gauge of how effective your website is at retaining and keeping visitors engaged.

For on-page SEO, pages per session can be boosted through strategic internal linking, improved UX, and compelling content. All of these are within your control and can be improved through a solid content strategy.

It would help if you also aimed to make your website as mobile-friendly as possible. Ensure that every page is navigable, easy to read, and responsive.

This is important as it helps you monitor how effective your sales funnel is. You’ll see the pages visitors click until they drop off into conversion.

Final words

On-page SEO plays an important role in ensuring that your site visitors find your pages engaging and suitable for their search query. After optimizing your pages, you should check the results. Usually, it will take months to see your efforts pay off. Just be patient.

Linkhelpers SEO – How to Add Emotions in Your Website? (Part 2)

February 7, 2020/by Carmel Lago

In How to Add Emotions in Your Website? (Part 1), David Norman is famous author on books regarding consumer psychology. He mention 3 levels of visual design in order to add emotions into any products that you are selling. Using these 3 levels, it will make your more appealing to your customers.

Buying Macarons in a Glass Display

In one study, David Norman was able to demonstrate how the 3 levels  influenced the human brain. Let’s tackle each level!

#1: VISCERAL

  • First, this is the pre-conscious level; this means that our minds interpret the emotional signals it gets from the surrounding environment. Thus, the visceral level can greatly affect how we view certain things. At the visceral level, the impressions made are sure to have a direct impact on us.
  • So, it’s safe to that you need to consider the first impression of the product: the look, the feel, and the presentation. Ideally, an effective visceral design should make as happy, giddy, and excited.

#2: BEHAVIORAL

  • Next, you have the behavioral level. This is concerned on the USE and PURPOSE of the product. At this point, it is important to determine the function. If people like how it works and have a pleasant experience using it, then, it will win favor of your customers.
  • Thus, you need to highlight how the products work and explain how it is relevant to the users. How will it fulfill the needs of your customers? Will it be useful to their daily lives? How will it make life easier for them?
  • At this level, the most important factor is the product’s function. The customer needs to understand its functions because a negative experience can result to confusion and further complication. On the other hand, a positive experience can bring delight and satisfaction. Thus, as a business owner, you need to truly know your audience’s needs. What do they really want in a product? What is that one need that they want to be addressed?

#3: REFLECTIVE

  • According to David Norman, this is the highest level. If the visceral level is the pre-conscious, then, the reflective level is the conscious state. The reflective level surpasses the the previous 2 levels.
  • We understand the products through our own interpretation. This is going to reflect our overall impression of the product. We give reasons such as it gives a strong message, it is deeply moving, it is notable for its color, meaning, style, etc.

COMBINING THE THREE

So, if you focus only on the design of the product, you are only tackling the visceral side. If you focus on the usability, then, it is just the behavioral aspect. Meanwhile, the reflective side will only take care of the overall impact of the product. However, if you use all 3 levels, you can create a product that is:

  • Attractive: it catches the attention of the potential users.
  • Useful: you are sure that it is adequate to the needs of its users.
  • Entertaining: the product is not just efficient, but it also enjoyable.
  • Memorable: finally, you would want the product to have a lasting memory of your brand. It should stand out from other similar products.

Linkhelpers SEO – How to Add Emotions in Your Website? (Part 1)

February 7, 2020/by Carmel Lago

Appealing to your customers’ emotions is a strategy that you can surely rely on. Emotional design should be an essential in your website in order to ensure a pleasant user experiences for everyone visiting your site. Whether they are merely browsing or consider buying your items, an emotional appeal can definitely give them a nudge to finally take action.

Working in a group

I know, website owners tend to prioritize the technical first. However, this approach has made website have an impersonal vibe, neglecting the potential of emotional design. Donald A. Norman is a well-known professor and author writing about cognitive psychology. In his book Emotional Design: Why We Love (or Hate) Everyday Things, Donald Norman reiterates that “attractive things work better.” Norman, and many other authors, acknowledge that emotions are crucial in unlocking the potential of web design.

In this blog post, I will discuss on how you should design your website. Not just to make things pretty, but to appeal to the emotions.

Secure a good foundation.

Whether what type of website you are building, you need to consider its foundation. Like when you are building a house, first and foremost, a good foundation is needed. Next, you need to plan the your goals and ask yourself, how you will partition the space available. In website design, you follow the same principle. You need to divide the “house” by adding walls. One space for products, another one for blog posts, and so on. Once you have a concrete plan to follow, then, you can concentrate on making the design come to life.

DEFINE THE GOALS

  • Before anything else, you need to ask yourself what goals you want to achieve.
  • Reflect on what image you want to portray, and how you want others to see your website. So, these goals in mind should be consistent with your actions. Also, it should be evident in your website appearance. Being consistent builds up your reliability and your trustworthiness.

THINK OF YOUR USERS

  • Yes, you have to consider your business goals. However, when designing, you also need to consider the people who are visiting this website. Put yourself in the shoes of your potential clients. Will they like it? Is it easy to purchase on your website? Is the website even easy to use?
  • So, you need to know your target audience. When you do this, you will eventually know what is important to your users.
  • If you skip this part, then, you won’t clearly know your target audience. You won’t be able to create a website that is both useful and enjoyable to your users.

CONSIDER THE CONTEXT

  • Lastly, you should think of the context. What role do you play? Consider the emotions needed in the situation. Of course, if you are presenting mysteries and thrillers in your website, you would not add colorful rainbows and fluffy unicorns. Knowing this, it will be easier for you to reach out to your target audience effectively. The key here is to communicate the message to your audience well.

For the second part, I will add Norman’s ways in adding emotions in your website. Be sure to check out the link below!

Linkhelpers SEO – Understanding the Connection of Consumer Psychology and Websites

February 7, 2020/by Carmel Lago

I know that you’re probably give me the side eye. You might think, “How is psychology related to building website?”

In fact, psychology affects how your website visitors behave. Whether you merely running a blog or selling expensive products, you still have to consider consumer psychology in the creation of your website.

Customer picks out items on a website

DEFINING CONSUMER PSYCHOLOGY

So, let’s start with the basics. As a way to start this discussion, you have to know that there is something called consumer psychology. It refers to the study of shoppers; it tries to answer the questions — the whys and the how — on why consumers buy certain products and ignore others.

Mostly, companies spends their resources in studying consumer behavior. They allocate millions just to determine the public’s preference. Studies are conducted to know why people prefer certain brands over another. What do business get out of these studies?

  • For one, businesses will know how their customers decide on what products to buy.
  • Secondly, as a business owner, you would know how to expand your business online.

Now that you know the WHAT part, let us move to the HOW part. Let’s say, you have a website, and so, how will you consumer psychology to convince people to check out your products.

CONSUMER PSYCHOLOGY IN CONNECTING WITH YOUR WEBSITE VISITORS

The question now is that how will you integrate consumer psychology into your web design. Here are some tips to follow:

PRODUCT PLACEMENT IS IMPORTANT
  • Regardless of the type of product, you need to remember that you need to place the products within the eye level of website visitors. If you are selling a product or service on your website, you need to add those products in front their eyes. Highlight bestselling products in a way that people can easily notice it.
  • Don’t expect that every visitor will be able to find the products or services they want. No, that should not be your mentality. Instead, when designing, you should consider how the proposed design will help the customers find what they need. Is this easy to navigate? Will they able to see the products in your sales page?
  • Your goal is always to guide your customers to your products. If they don’t know about it, then, provide photos and videos. Educate them so that they will be enticed to check your products.
APPEAL TO THEIR EMOTIONS
  • Next, you need to remember that emotions are powerful. For sure, you have bought something because you like its color, or you like how it looked. You didn’t exactly needed the product right away, but you liked the design of the shoes. So, you bought it immediately… familiar scenario, right?
  • It’s not just you because it applies to everyone. Your products need to connect with the target market. You can capture the emotions of your potential customers by telling them HOW your products or services can be a solution to their problems. Moreover, you need to present how these products can make their daily lives easier. Read more:  How to Add Emotions in Your Website?

Linkhelpers SEO – How to Promote Your Website Through with Email Marketing?

February 6, 2020/by Carmel Lago

For your website to thrive, you need an audience. Without a doubt, a website is useless without followers. For a blog, readers are needed. For an online store, customers are necessary.

Whatever type of website you are running, you need people. There’s no doubt in that. However, the question is… where you do your find your people? How are you going to start your search? Most importantly, how are you going to convert mere website visitors into actual buyers?

gmail email on a laptop

For starters, always ask for people’s email. As what I have discussed in 4 Easy Ways to Gain Traffic for Your Website, email is one way to reach many people. First, you got to find your target audience, ask for their working email, and send promotions to that email. The more emails you get, the better for your business.

How do you build your email list?

Well, there are a number of ways. First, you need to obtain their email addresses, and market to your email list. However, you should not send numerous of promotional emails at all once. Remember, it’s not all about telling them to buy. If you continue to send them with sales, your email subscribers will dwindle down. People will immediately unsubscribe if they see that you constantly pester them with spam emails. If you need more email ideas, refer to this blog post.

What can  you add to your email newsletter?

Remember, people subscribe to your email thinking that you have something valuable to share. So, give them value. Whether it is an important information, a freebie, helpful tips, or all of the above, give it to them.

Don’t just send them opportunities to buy. Instead, you should earn their trust. Link them to helpful blog posts, free ebooks, video tutorials, or podcasts that may help them. After leading them to a set of helpful content, then, you can add product offers. This is where you make money.

Don’t make it all about you.

Yes, you need to earn money to keep the business going. However, if you always think of the business side of things, you won’t earn loyal customers. You need to educate the potential customers about your products. Don’t directly sell it to them. Here are some tips to follow:

  • Highlight the important features.
  • Explain it to them in plain language and elaborate how the product can help them in their daily lives.
  • Tell them how the product can offer convenience and comfort.
  • Provide a demo through videos and images.
  • Lastly, you need to give a little push. At this point, once you have highlighted the product images and showed them demo videos, it pretty hard to resist.

Plus, if you add in a special offer, like free shipping or discount voucher, they will grab this opportunity to buy. If people are hesitant to buy, then, you have to make it exciting for them. You need to create a desire to buy your products. It helps if you study on how to write effective product descriptions or study consumer psychology.

Linkhelpers SEO – 4 Things NOT to Do when Running a Business Page on Social Media (Part 2)

February 5, 2020/by Carmel Lago

After 3 Things NOT to Do when Running a Business Page on Social Media (Part 1), I am back with another set of tips for you. Whether you own a newly established business or an already popular one, you can’t deny the influence that social media has brought in to your website.

assorted-color social media signage

Whether your niche is on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, there are things that you should NOT do especially if you want to grow your number of followers. In order to form stronger relationships, here are 4 more things that you should avoid doing at all costs.

Lie to Gain More Clicks

Today, clickbaiting is a common habit to gain more engagement online. However, this ain’t a healthy practice because it will surely backfire.

Yes, you might feel the pressure of social media, and everything seems to be a matter of what’s popular or not. Remember, lying to others won’t make you popular. You won’t belong the “in” crowd because you tried to deceive people in order to gain more following.

You may fall behind other business accounts, but being honest is the sure way to go. Everyone gets tempted to create a misleading title in order to accelerate the process, but do not do this. As I have said earlier, doing this will definitely backfire. At first, it may seems there will be a swarm of people following you. Then, you will notice that they slowly stop following your posts. In the end, lying, misleading, and deceiving headlines can just hurt your reputation. Trust me, you wouldn’t want this especially if you are just starting!

Broadcasting More Than Replying to Your Followers

Next, you have to remember that social media is a two-way street. Your role is NOT only to broadcast your promotional posts, but you also have to take time to receive queries. For sure, there would be comments and replies to your posts. Don’t just ignore these messages that come your way!

You will surely fail if you ignore these things. There’s no need to come up with a lengthy response to be honest. All you need to do is to simply thank these followers for their time to like, share, retweet your post. This small effort on your part can send a message that you are also willing to help others.

Being Know-It-All and Obnoxious

No one wants to deal with a “Know-It-All” coworker. Even people online hate being close to arrogant prick! It is such a turn off for a lot of people. If you want to gain a good reputation, be sure you will assign someone who is calm and composed to handle your social media accounts. When you are provoked by trolls, do not engage with these people. Train your staff regarding what to do and not to do when handling social media accounts like reading this post.

Do your best to be professional at all times, and do not share your negative sentiments publicly. If you need to clear out an issue, reach out directly to the people involved.

Post Too Much

Lastly, you would want to share and engage with your followers. However, there is such a thing as sharing too much. As I’ve mentioned on 3 Things NOT to Do when Running a Business Page on Social Media (Part 1), spread it out posts and schedule them in different dates. If it ain’t related to your business, post it on your personal account instead.

Linkhelpers SEO – 3 Things NOT to Do when Running a Business Page on Social Media (Part 1)

February 5, 2020/by Carmel Lago

As I have discussed in 4 Easy Ways to Gain Traffic for Your Website, social media plays an important role in the growth of your website. If you are not active, then, it’s time to finally get started. Of course, you can’t just tackle social media without reading some guidelines. In this blog post, I will teach you the thing YOU SHOULD NOT DO.

Once you know the things to avoid, you can easily focus on the things that you should do. Whether you are mainly on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, these tips will help you foster nurturing relationships among your followers.

No Concrete Plan

In everything that you do, planning is an essential part. To be honest, many businesses use social media without knowing their purpose. They just start an account because they see that everyone is active online. No, you should not be like this. Instead, you need to go through the planning stage carefully.

First, you need to know the difference between Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media sites. One of the many criteria, of course, is because your audience is on this specific website. If based on your research you realized that your target customers are on Facebook, then, focus on that first. Eventually, you will branch out to other social media pages when the need arises. For now, focus on the issue at hand, and establish a concrete plan on how to advertise your website.

Promoting the Business Every Single Time

Yes, social media is place to promote. However, if you repeatedly do it, promoting gets redundant. People don’t like that! Self-promoting over and over can be such a turn off to many people online. You should find the right balance in promoting your business, answering questions, and interacting with your followers. Once you take time to interact with others, your followers will become more tolerant to your promotional posts. Since you give your time to your followers, they will also give their time to you.

They will be more open minded to what you will send their way. So, don’t just focus on promoting because this will not help you gain thousands of followers.

Sending Too Many Messages All at Once

If there’s one thing that people hate, it is this: S-P-A-M. Spam does not only apply to emails; it can also be applicable to social media posts. The social media realm does not want to read all your messages at once. You don’t have to broadcast all your post at a particular time. Instead, you need to spread it out. Schedule your posts on Facebook to know which time most of your followers go online. For Twitter, there is a tool called Tweetdeck. It is Twitter’s official tool for scheduling tweets ahead of time, and tracking the engagements that each tweet will receive.

Remember, do not spam because if you do, your followers would not like it. People will stay away from any form of spamming. Before you know it, these people have unfollowed or unliked your page because they do not like the number of times you post each day.

Linkhelpers SEO – 4 Easy Ways to Gain Traffic for Your Website

February 5, 2020/by Carmel Lago

With everything available online, we all want to take advantage of the popularity of the digital realm. Websites do not become popular instantly. There are things to follow in order to ensure that you are going the right direction.

SEO

Nowadays, websites apply the cheapest method, which is SEO. Of course, not everyone has enough budget to hire a web developer to create your own personalized website. This is where search engine optimization (or SEO) comes in handy because it won’t cost you much. However, the downside is that SEO is a very time-consuming. Expected results won’t up in an instant!

To gain traffic for your website, you will have to slowly create valuable content. Whether you would want to focus on written articles, video tutorials, or a combination of both, it’s really up to you and your designated audience.

Search engines such as Google emphasize that for a website to gain popularity, it has to establish a niche. The website has to showcase its expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness. Your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts come into fruition when people start to look for information regarding topics in discussed in your website. This is why you should put an effort on knowing the popular keywords or search terms. To be honest, keyword research is often done hurriedly. So, don’t try to go the next step right away.

Email

After you have given some time into keyword research, then, it’s time to add other elements such as email subscription. If these people start to appreciate your content, they will become a loyal follower and subscribe to other mediums such as your social media pages, and email list too. This is why most websites ask people to sign up on their email list. So, you might also want to do this in order to gain readers for your website. You better add a email sign up on your homepage.

Social Media

Next, you have social media to your advantage. Since practically everyone has a social media page, you don’t have to spend so much. It’s just a matter of reaching out to your target audience and build a list of prospects. Once you have decided on where your audience resides, you can use these pages to post content about your business. Whether you choose Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, it has to address an issue. Like your blog posts, the content should be able to help and inform your audience. Again, everything needs to lead to you being able to express your expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness. Social media posts have to consistent with your brand.

YouTube

Lastly, you have YouTube. One of the most popular platforms today is YouTube, and you can’t deny that many have become popular digital influencers because of this. You see, if people want to search for answers, they usually rely on Google. When words aren’t enough, they rely on YouTube’s abilities. So, use this chance to explain more complex topics. For sure, there are topics that you can’t explain in a blog post. Both your videos and blog posts can work hand in hand to boost your website. In your video description, you can link your website, where in people can find more resources and useful content.

Linkhelpers SEO – 3 Quick and Easy Ways to Improve Website Content (Part 3)

February 4, 2020/by Carmel Lago

Now, this is the last of part of the series. Catch up on 3 Quick and Easy Ways to Improve Website Content (Part 1) and 3 Quick and Easy Ways to Improve Website Content (Part 2).

two women talking while looking at laptop computer

These are the tips you can do yourself:

  1. Restructure your old content.

There will be topics that will forever be relevant. Moreover, recycling old topics are not exactly bad. The thing is, you can make it better, fresher, and greater. Tackle an old topic using a new perspective.

Perhaps, you might want to try podcasts instead of blogging. Try your luck on webinars instead of YouTube videos, or vice versa.

Here are some examples of what you can experiment on:

  • Reupload old webinar videos into tutorials on YouTube.
  • Add oldie but goodie posts on newsletters especially if the topics are still relevant to this day.
  • Use your research to create helpful infographics.

Content is not a one-time deal. Surely, you can keep on rehashing and resharing your most engaging posts. Restructure them and share them on newer mediums and audiences. Remember, articles make it to magazines, and even books. Don’t ever hesitate on recycling some of your old — and still relevant — content.

  1. Try minimize and simplify your articles.

For some articles, readers hesitate to read because it is lengthy. Yes, this can discourage people from reading. So, do your best to minimize and summarize lengthy articles.

Whether your blog post consists of 500 words or 2000 words, you should know when to stop.

For written articles and blog posts, longer paragraphs are fine. You can write a maximum of 15 rows. However, for emails, you should bring it down to only 5 rows.

Also, make the transition smoother. You can even use bullets and numbers to provide a easier flow and a better understanding of your topic. Aside from it making your lengthy articles short, bullets and numbers help the audience better understand the information you are giving them.

  1. Never forget to add images.

Generally, people are visual learners. This is why your texts needs images. No matter how verbose and sophisticated it may seem, your posts will still need images.

According to Skyword.com, a content presented with a relevant image can have 94% more clicks than those without.

It does not automatically mean that we can upload any free stock photo we see. No, that won’t help. You need to give more time and though in selecting images. Here are some tips to follow:

  • Professional shots: One reason why people hire photographers is that they want to ensure the proper lighting on all their images. Poor background concept and lighting can make a huge difference in the overall look of the photos.
  • Overused photos: Nowadays, it very to get stock photos. Many of the usual stock photos we see are free. However, the popular ones are used by many companies. So, pick the ones that are not generic and still present the authenticity you are looking for.
  • Use an appropriate image: Lastly, different images have different uses. For instance, adding a photo of your team is not a good idea for a video thumbnail. However, this photo would be great on the “careers” page. It will definitely encourage other people to be part of your growing company.

Linkhelpers SEO – 3 Quick and Easy Ways to Improve Website Content (Part 2)

February 4, 2020/by Carmel Lago

In Quick and Easy Ways to Improve Website Content (Part 1), I reiterated the importance of content. Without it, your website is nothing. That is why creating excellent content is very important.

person using MacBook Pro

Even if you use state-of-the-art website tools and premium SEO tools, it will not be enough when your content is just average. Every content is aimed towards conversion. If it fails to convert people to customers, then, all your efforts is useless. In this blog post, I will give you simple and easy to follow tips in order to take your content to a higher notch. Read more about it below:

  1. It’s not always the money.

Yes, one of your goals may be to increase sales. However, you have to remember to NOT always focus on selling. Don’t try too hard on selling your products to people like convincing people to buy, going extra lengths to promote, and exorbitant marketing and sales posts.

Take note, people visit websites in order to browse. Upon their search for information, these people want value and quality. No one cares about ads!

You may counter and say that there’s no harm in mentioning the latest website promos especially if that is part of the user’s search intent. However, you need to keep in mind that customers may find this strategy as too much. So, try not to bombard potential customers with sales and promos.

  1. Give a valuable insight.

Sometimes, the content on a website is merely there to occupy space and mention keywords. No, you should NOT do this.

Content should be relevant and valuable to the audience. How can you do that? You inform, educate, and/or provide your expert opinion on certain topics. Remember, every website content should be created with a purpose in mind. No one would read paragraphs of texts for nothing.

Knowing your goal is important in any business venture. Of course, you would want to known as someone who would provide exemplary content to your audience. Exceptional and superb are the words you want to be associated with your website. So, delete any content that has nothing to do with being excellent. Moreover, avoid adding fluff that will just hinder your audience from fully understanding the topic you are discussing.

So, avoid beating around the bush, and strive to be helpful and concise at the same time. Everyone wants the shortest explanation possible.

  1. Add research, surveys, and statistical data.

Lastly, when you add numbers, people will like that. For instance, saying that ‘The average bounce rate of websites would be around 41% to 55%.’ More on: 3 Reasons Why Your Website Has a Huge Bounce Rate

Do you know why this strategy works effectively?

  • Numbers make the article more credible. According to Hubspot.com, blog posts with actual numbers on their titles have around 175% chances to be shared than those without digits.
  • The audience can clearly understand the topic more with the numbers to back up the current trend.
  • With these numbers, people can also predict the future  relevant trends. For example, if there is a continued upward rise, then, we can safely say that the trend will continue to gain popularity.
