Grand Canyon Village Tidbits
Grand Canyon Village is based in the northern part of Arizona. It is known as the world more colorful and dazzling landscape. The historic district embraces the ancient history center of the Grand Canyon Village, located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park based in Arizona. The district involves a lot of landmark park construction, some are listed on the National Register of Historic Place and several of which are National Historic Landmarks. The design as a whole as this town is powerful and momentous for its diligence to integration with the Grand Canyon panorama.
Grand Canyon Village was designed by the National Park Service to be a complete and global development of tourism on the South Rim. It is the greatest example of a Park Service town outlining extant in the national park complex. The primary centered on the accomplishment of the Grand Canyon Railway, the town was expanded as both the park concessioner, the Park Service, the Fred Harvey Company, established or welding machinery. In the year 1905, the El Tower was opened as a terminal hotel on the canyon rim by the Topeka Atchison, and Santa Fe Railway, who is known as the Grand Canyon spur. In the year 1909, a new train depot was established next to the hotel by the railway. The concessionaires are the one taking care of all the early development of the village.

While the Grand Canyon in the year 1910 was still labeled a national monument, Richard Achilles Ballinger (Secretary of the Interior) recommended an idea to be done prior further development and progress took place at the South Rim. The general superintendent Mark Daniels of the parks from 1914, called for complementary inclusive planning in establishing sewer and water systems, power distribution as well as the telephone networks.
A master plan in the year 1924 by National Park Service was planned by Daniel Ray Hull, a landscape architect, established a village square junction of the east road and railroad down the El Tovar. The initial park administration building was built over there. He used the town's topography, charged by Bright Angel Wash town's topography, with friendly urban neighborhoods on two small hills branched by the bureau of the Bright Angel drainage, over the main south entrance road to the Bright Angel and charging hotel expansion in the land area of the El Tovar and the Bright Angel Camp. One more plaza or square was proposed where the new south entrance road reached the rim, enclosing another proposed museum, administration building and a post office. In due time, the plaza turned into a parking area.
The residential areas are very diverse. Park Service construction was organized for the automobile access was to be hindered with house fronts adapted to a central common space. The city of Grand Canyon Village is one of the earliest uses of this agreement in a prospective community, anticipating its use at Radburn, Henry Wright and New Jersey by Clarence Stein. Fred Harvey Company Housing personnel were organized in a more classic street facing organization, with a lateral arrangement of alleys for the entry to the garages at the rear of the lot areas.
Most of the ideas and work that were established in the late 1930's was all done by the Civilian Conservation Corps labor, especially the beautiful landscaping which includes the transplantation of the native and natural vegetation into land areas that was distracted by the construction.
Most of the amazing and classic structures and contributing features in Grand Canyon Village are classic and simple landscape design just like the culverts, the attracting retaining walls and sidewalks. The canyon rim stone wall is the fundamental defining attraction of the area, established in the era between year 1934 and 1905. Almost 44 structures were identified as devoting attractions of the city, most of the built of classic Kaibab limestone.
